THE HISTORY OF METAL AND HORROR

documentary / USA / 2022 / 1h 40min

Horrifyingly good music

Have you ever wondered why metalheads watch so many horrors, or why horror lovers listen to metal music? “The history of metal and horror” is here to explain this connection. It will, at the same time, take the viewers on a trip around the history of horror movies. But don’t expect some boring horror history textbook. “The history of metal and horror” is a product of deep love for both cinema and music. And it’s not even just about the love of its creators. The many famous movie stars and musicians that sat in front of the camera will make sure you have a time of your life. Among those, who will be discussing their favorite horrors, there is the famous director John Carpenter (“Christine”, “The Thing”, “The Fog”, “Prince of Darkness”), scream queen Linnea Quigley, rock icon Alice Cooper, musician and director Rob Zombie, Tom Savini, Dave Mustaine (Megadeath frontman), Korn’s Jonathan Davis, horror icons Kane Hodder, Bill Moseley, Gunnar Hansen, famous musicians Don Dokken, Dani Filth and many, many more legendary figures. Your guide around the world of hardcore music and horror movies will be Michael Berryman, one of the most renowned horror icons. A man who terrifies whole generations of people in “The Hills Have Eyes,” or “The Devil’s Rejects.”

Watching “The history of metal and horror” will surely make you feel a special connection with its guests. We grew up with the same horrors keeping us awake at night. Doesn’t matter if it was “Poltergeist’s” face removal scene or giant ants. What connects us is the deep love we have for discovering the more obscure side of human nature and the need to confront our fears. This is what makes the movie stars and music icons in the documentary feel even closer to the viewers.

The documentary won over twenty awards at film festivals all around the world. And this is only the beginning, as the director, Mike Schiff, achieved something that seemed to be completely unachievable for other documentary makers.

He passed his enthusiasm on to his guests, and they, in turn, pass it on to the viewers.
