TALK: This is no game for little girls? Women in the beginnings of cinematography.

Women aren’t suited to be directors, because they don’t have a “system thinking”, a necessity for being a filmmaker. Many selection boards from International Film Festivals still seem to hold this opinion expressed by Antoni Bohdziewicz as women are a minority in this category.
During our talk we’re going to prove how unjustified this argumentation is, by presenting a significant contribution made by women to the cinema, as well as exposing the mechanisms, which some systems use to exclude women from the film industry.
Wanda Jakubowska, Alice Guy-Blaché and Virginia Van Upp – why were they forgotten?
When we don’t know what’s going on, in most cases it is all about power and money, we’ll also discuss this matter during our talk. We’ll state bold thesis and call things what they really are. We’ll also discuss and learn about women in the movie industry – we’re going to show you, that it is truly worth it!

Jolanta Prochowicz – philosopher, philologist, feminist, cultural manager and cinematic educator. She is the originator and organizer of ,,Demakijaż’’ – Female Film Festival.

The language of the talk: Polish.
