ABOUT THE FILM:
Hostile work conditions.
A big corporation is attacked by a virus which strips the infected of all the restraints and social norms. When the firm’s building is quarantined and cut off from the rest of the world, the evil accumulates inside, and the employees show their true selves, knowing that they won’t be held accountable for any, even the most violent or amoral behavior, because they will be justified by the illness caused by the virus. A frustrated employee, Derek (played by Steven Yeun from The Walking Dead), can finally take revenge on his boss and co-workers. He will stop at nothing in his quest for justice. He will be accompanied by Melanie – an angry client. They have to get things done before the quarantine ends.

Mayhem is an intelligent bloody comedy whose pace is akin to that of a roller-coaster. The film’s author is Joe Lynch – actor, producer, and director who specializes in genre cinema, especially horror. According to Variety, the film brings to mind Die Hard mixed with a zombie apocalypse. But most of all, the picture is a brutal criticism of capitalism and sociopathic behaviour in a workplace. It brings up the question: What would we do in a situation like this? What if the social norms would cease to exist for a period of time, if we would stop suppressing our emotions and deepest desires? Who would we want to take revenge on at our workplace? Well, some questions are better left without an answer…

The film had its Polish premiere at the Splat!FilmFest in 2017.

ABOUT THE MEETING (meeting in Polish language)
After the film screening there will be the special meeting: “Psychopaths Are Among Us” with the psychologist Ireneusz Siudem.
Psychopaths and sociopaths are not only persistent offenders who commit indictable crimes. In fact, we might come across a number of them on a daily basis. They can be our co-workers, partners or family members. They shatter our self-esteem, diminish our achievements, ruin our relationships and careers, manipulate, empty our bank accounts, and even threaten world peace. It is a common practice for them to do all of this in a refined manner, under the guise of amiability and kindness, and to enjoy a spotless reputation in the eyes of their community at the same time.
The problem of the people lacking empathy and having little or no conscience is usually not specifically addressed, although it is highly probable that everyone of us encounters such humans in our environment. At the meeting we will learn about the typical traits of the people who are ruthless and have no moral qualms. Thanks to it, we will know how to identify such people and not let them manipulate us. It is of crucial importance for us since they usually create an exceptionally favourable impression at the first glance and it is thereby particularly difficult to unmask them.

Ireneusz Siudem – a scholar with a PhD in Psychology and a psychotherapist. He is a co-creator of the community-based addiction prevention programme and the chairman of the Nowa Kuźnia Association. He is also an author of over 60 scientific publications concerning the psychological analysis of social phenomena, pathological condition prevention within society, violence and addiction prevention, as well as mental healthcare. The meeting will be held by Monika Stolat – the Splat!Nights manager.
